A Stay at Julie's

Quebradilla Costa Rica

I stayed in Quebradilla, 15 kilometres from Cartago, with Julia and her husband Roland. They wanted me to teach their sons Giancarlo and Giovanni English, which interested them about as much as a clean kitchen would a cockroach. I also added Lola's picture because she was such a wonderfully cheerful woman who came in the morning to cook and clean. I stayed with them for a week before I left for Jaco and the Pacific coast. Here's beautiful Julia working in her office (she was a lawyer) and another with all her friends. It was very green and lush in the valley and this view is from the top of their street.

Here's Julia's house. I think I would have felt more comfortable running through the Tate Gallery drunk because you couldn't scratch your ass without fearing you'd break something. There are no addresses on houses in Costa Rica which is completely bizarre. Instead, the address would look like this:

Jose Rodriquez
15 kms south of Cartago
turn right at the junkyard off highway 2
the white house at the end of the street
opposite the yellow house with the busted flagpole
