Ancient City of Amman, Jordan
King Abdullah of Jordan.
In February 2009 I went to work in Aqaba, Jordan as an ESL instructor to government security employees. What an interesting country and I was surprised at how exceptionally good-looking the people were.
There was a lot of construction going on in Amman, as you can see by the cranes in just about every city photo. The people were friendly and the food was great.

I stayed at the Palace Hotel for $15/night. It was clean and quiet and it was only a short walk away from the Amphitheatre and other museums. They picked me up at the airport for $20, which was worth it as the airport was quite a ways from the city and I arrived at 1:00 a.m.

On the way to Syria it was dust, desert and diesel.
